Computer programming

Step 1: Prepare a computer

  • Computer configuration requirements:
  • Windows 10/11 or Mac or Linux
  • Memory at least 8GB (recommended 16GB)
  • At least 20GB hard disk space available

Step 2: Installation of Node.js (operational environment)

1. Open browser access:

https://nodejs.org/

Click on the "Node.js v20.x LTS" button on the page (the bigger button on the left)

3. Open the downloaded file after download is completed

4. Click "Next Next" all the way, and lastly click "Equipping"

5. Open "Windows" or "Mac" after installation

6. Enter the following command to check whether the installation was successful:

node -v

If a version number similar to "v20.x.x" is shown, the installation is successful!

Step 3: Access to API Key

Dexter needs to connect to the AI brain and needs an API key:

  • 1. Access to OpenAI website:
  • https://platform.openai.com/
  • Registration of an account number
  • 3. Click "API Keys"
  • 4. Click "Create new security key"
  • 5. Give the key a name (e.g. "Dexter" ), click to create
  • 6. Important:Copy and save this key, it only shows once!

Step 4: Download and configure Dexter

1. Create a new folder named "Dexter"

2. Create a new text file in this folder and rename it "config.js"

3. Opens, in a note book, the following:

1. Open command hint or terminal

2. Access to Dexter ' s folder:

3. Installation dependency (first run):

npm install

Start Dexter:

npm start

Step 6: Launch

1. Open browser

Enter in the address bar:

http://localhost:3000
